Quality in Play

Quality in Play was born in the Training Unit of HPA - it started with a group of play workers from Hackney, led by Jess Milne and Mick Conway.

The work was then taken on by Mick and Tony Farley. Work progressed and it was felt that a more pan London agency would be better placed to promote this programme. London Play now is the lead organisation for this Quality Assurance programme. "... a valuable addition to the play sector, complementing and reinforcing the work of Best Play ... and the National Child-care Strategy..." Chris Smith, then Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport "The materials were very clearly laid out and gave careful consideration to making providers aware of what is expected of them when participating in the scheme."

IiC endorsement panel Quality Assurance Quality in Play is a quality assurance scheme for out-of-school play and childcare provision. It is endorsed by Investors in Children (IiC), a national scheme developed by the government to endorse quality assurance schemes which meet rigorous criteria.

Quality in Play was developed by playwork practitioners and is based on established playwork values. It builds on the national standards to enable providers to demonstrate good practice by developing a portfolio of evidence for independent assessment.
